In the Senate Race in Tennessee: Ford Leads Corker by 1% a Deadheat in a Southern State

Republicans should start worrying about 2006, why? Because in the state of Tennessee, Harold Ford, an African American Democratic Congressman, is leading Bob Corker, the Republican nominee by 1%. Ford who is a 5 term congressman who was first elected in 1996 at the age of 26. He entered the senate race behind everyone of his possible Republican challengers and was likely to lose. However, in a recent poll published by the DSCC, Ford lead Corker by 1%. Why, because Corker has become a part of the culture of corruption in the Republican Party. On the DSCC website posted Aug.22, 2006, they had this to say about Mr. Corker:

From www.dscc.org:

"Republican Bob Corker has earned his place in the Hall of Shame for placing his own financial interests before the interests of Tennessee while mayor of Chattanooga. Corker's real estate company took in a whopping $4.6 million "by selling the Wal-Mart land just weeks after Corker's public works administrator signed off on a construction easement."

The Memphis Commercial Appeal documents Corker's unethical behavior:

Once a place where neighborhood kids caught bugs and hikers admired birds and wildflowers, this wooded nature preserve along South Chickamauga Creek now is littered with trash and overgrown with weed-choked trails.

Looking around last week, activist Sandy Kurtz blamed two sources: Wal-Mart and Bob Corker, a self-made millionaire who until last year was Chattanooga's mayor.

"I used to bring kids with school groups out here and do environmental programs to highlight the value of wetlands," said Kurtz, an environmental educator. "It's grown up now because our volunteers can't get to it anymore.''

Kurtz and other activists unsuccessfully fought plans by Corker's private companies for a now-thriving Wal-Mart Supercenter, built in 2003 in this protected watershed. Now, three years later, the controversy is roiling again, just as Corker heads toward the home stretch in his bid for Tennessee's open U.S. Senate seat.

A lawsuit by Kurtz that Corker's lawyers had succeeded in getting dismissed has been reinstated, and, just last week, a judge issued an order that keeps private some records connected to the suit.

The controversy is spinning off new allegations.

A Nashville lawyer pursuing Kurtz's suit says he's bothered by records that show how a Corker real estate company collected $4.6 million by selling the Wal-Mart land just weeks after Corker's public works administrator signed off on a construction easement.

If Corker could not be trusted to put the citizens of Chattanooga above his own personal wealth, why should Tennesseans trust him now? This shady business deal could be especially harmful to Corker given his past ethical transgressions, which includes questionable personal loans and misleading political ads."

(Thank you to the DSCC)

Corker a former mayor of Chattanooga, TN, has made making lots of money more important than serving people as many Republicans have. He will join the likes of Randy "Duke" Cunningham, Tom Delay, and Bob Ney as the leaders of the culture of corruption.

Harold Ford will always put people first, and never be tempted by money and bribes. Ford should have been in the lead from the begining but now the people see why Ford should be senator. If you are tired of the culture of corruption, VOTE DEMOCRAT!
