The Case for Obama

Barack Obama is currently weighing a race for president. At first I was skeptical of Barack Obama. Of course I felt that Barack Obama was a political genius. I thought he was articulate, smart, and had all the right ideas. However, I look for one of two things in a candidate for president. One, I look for experience. This lead me to skeptical of Obama. He had only been a senator for a year now, and will only have been a senator for 4 years in 2008. If you don't have experience, you need to have a lot of good ideas. And I feel that Obama had good ideas, however I didn't truly understand great Obama is. When I think of how I was skeptical of Obama, I am reminded of Bobby Kennedy, who, out of the candidates for the Democratic nomination in 1968, he made the most sense, and was a different kind of candidate who understood America, and the challenges we face. And, like Obama, Bobby Kennedy was a diplomat, who didn't make every nation in the world angry. He is a different kind of politician. Bobby Kennedy was a senator for only 3 years. Some people are meant to be president. Whether this election or the next, we must nominate and elect Barack Obama as president of the United States. However, I am a Joe Biden supporter for president, I feel if not Biden, then Obama. Obama can carry on what my political hero Bobby Kennedy couldn't do, because we all know the tragedy that happened, Boddy Kennedy departed this earth too early from a bullet of a coward. Obama is my generation's John or Robert Kennedy. We need Obama. We can't pass him up.

Democrats Leading on 2 of the 3 major issues.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POLL IS FROM WWW.CNN.COM/POLITICS amd was done by the Opinion Research Corporation on August 18-20, 2006.

A poll recently posted on www.cnn.com/POLITICS showed that Americans believe out of the three major issues, terrorism, the war in Iraq, and the economy those polled believed that Democrats would do a better job in Iraq and the economy. The President and the Republicans hoped that they could make Iraq an issue that worked in their favor for this up and coming election. However, as the Republicans are quickly finding out, they can't win in November. We the Democrats have finally succeeded in convincing Americans that we are better. This country is sick and tired of this President and his stay the course attitude. President Bush thinks that everything he does is right and everybody who disagrees with him is wrong. President Bush was quoted saying on Monday in a news conference, "There are a lot of people in the Democratic Party who believe that the best course of action is to leave Iraq before the job is done. Period. And they're wrong," Are we Mr. President? Figuring a vast majority of Americans believe your war was bullshit from the begining, are we all wrong or maybe it is you who is wrong? Oh, and look above Mr. P, and see for yourself, you are loosing on Iraq and so are the American troops. If you truly supported them you would change your course. We support them and want to bring them home soon. And on the economy, the President and his failed policy of tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent of Americans have made this economy fail time after time, and these polls show this.

Lamont for U.S. Senate

Everybody has been watching the Connecticut senate race as Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (D-CT) was defeated by challenger and anti-war candidate Ned Lamont for the Democratic nomination. I was a supporter of Mr. Lieberman in the primary because I feel I am more moderate, and think we should have conservative voices in the Democratic Party. However, since Lieberman was defeated by Ned Lamont, and he is the nominee, I support Mr. Lamont because I support the Democratic Party. Mr. Lamont is not a bad candidate and I believe in what he stands for. He stands for standing up to President Bush and changing course in Iraq by bringing the troops home. I do not believe in bringing the troops home right away, but I think having the debate makes it an issue, rather than something that this congress just ignores. We need to do something with Iraq rather than just stay the course. I think that Mr. Lamont could be a voice in this.
I do not respect Mr. Lieberman's decision to run as an "Independent Democrat." He should have respected Mr. Lamont's victory and dropped out. He is just trying to hang onto a broken campaign for Senate. Mr. Lamont won, get over it. Ned Lamont is a good man, with a good heart. I think Mr. Lieberman should be loyal to the democratic process and bow out of the race. Lieberman is on an ego trip that is fueled by his belief that people still believe in him. If his own party has said no, than what other support will he get? I respect Mr. Lieberman and think he should quit while he is ahead and leave as people should remember him as a good man and senator who stuck to his convictions. If he stays on with this race, he will be remembered as an egotistical sore looser.

In the Senate Race in Tennessee: Ford Leads Corker by 1% a Deadheat in a Southern State

Republicans should start worrying about 2006, why? Because in the state of Tennessee, Harold Ford, an African American Democratic Congressman, is leading Bob Corker, the Republican nominee by 1%. Ford who is a 5 term congressman who was first elected in 1996 at the age of 26. He entered the senate race behind everyone of his possible Republican challengers and was likely to lose. However, in a recent poll published by the DSCC, Ford lead Corker by 1%. Why, because Corker has become a part of the culture of corruption in the Republican Party. On the DSCC website posted Aug.22, 2006, they had this to say about Mr. Corker:

From www.dscc.org:

"Republican Bob Corker has earned his place in the Hall of Shame for placing his own financial interests before the interests of Tennessee while mayor of Chattanooga. Corker's real estate company took in a whopping $4.6 million "by selling the Wal-Mart land just weeks after Corker's public works administrator signed off on a construction easement."

The Memphis Commercial Appeal documents Corker's unethical behavior:

Once a place where neighborhood kids caught bugs and hikers admired birds and wildflowers, this wooded nature preserve along South Chickamauga Creek now is littered with trash and overgrown with weed-choked trails.

Looking around last week, activist Sandy Kurtz blamed two sources: Wal-Mart and Bob Corker, a self-made millionaire who until last year was Chattanooga's mayor.

"I used to bring kids with school groups out here and do environmental programs to highlight the value of wetlands," said Kurtz, an environmental educator. "It's grown up now because our volunteers can't get to it anymore.''

Kurtz and other activists unsuccessfully fought plans by Corker's private companies for a now-thriving Wal-Mart Supercenter, built in 2003 in this protected watershed. Now, three years later, the controversy is roiling again, just as Corker heads toward the home stretch in his bid for Tennessee's open U.S. Senate seat.

A lawsuit by Kurtz that Corker's lawyers had succeeded in getting dismissed has been reinstated, and, just last week, a judge issued an order that keeps private some records connected to the suit.

The controversy is spinning off new allegations.

A Nashville lawyer pursuing Kurtz's suit says he's bothered by records that show how a Corker real estate company collected $4.6 million by selling the Wal-Mart land just weeks after Corker's public works administrator signed off on a construction easement.

If Corker could not be trusted to put the citizens of Chattanooga above his own personal wealth, why should Tennesseans trust him now? This shady business deal could be especially harmful to Corker given his past ethical transgressions, which includes questionable personal loans and misleading political ads."

(Thank you to the DSCC)

Corker a former mayor of Chattanooga, TN, has made making lots of money more important than serving people as many Republicans have. He will join the likes of Randy "Duke" Cunningham, Tom Delay, and Bob Ney as the leaders of the culture of corruption.

Harold Ford will always put people first, and never be tempted by money and bribes. Ford should have been in the lead from the begining but now the people see why Ford should be senator. If you are tired of the culture of corruption, VOTE DEMOCRAT!

DCCC's Why A Democratic Majority?

This article is from the website of www.dccc.org:

"Why a Democratic Majority?
America Needs a New Direction

With a Democratic majority in Congress we can focus the agenda on the priorities that families care about most, like fighting for health care, working to lower gas prices, making education for our children affordable and a plan for success in Iraq and the broader war on terror. America needs a new direction. House Democrats will lead the way with a Democratic Majority.

With a Democratic Majority...
• With Democrats in charge, we will help lower gas prices and achieve energy independence, crack down on price gouging; eliminate billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop American alternatives, including biofuels; promote energy efficient technology.

• With Democrats in charge, we will fight to help working families by raising the minimum wage; and repealing tax giveaways that encourage companies to move jobs overseas.

• With Democrats in charge, we will cut college costs, make college tuition deductible from taxes; expand Pell grants and cut student loan costs.

• With Democrats in charge, we will ensure a dignified retirement for our seniors by preventing the privatization of Social Security; but instead expanding savings incentives and ensuring pension fairness.

• With Democrats in charge, we will extend health coverage to millions of uninsured Americans nationwide and fight for affordable prescription drugs, not multi-billion dollar giveaways to pharmaceutical companies and HMOs.

• With Democrats in charge, we will get our fiscal house in order. Under the Bush administration, we have gone from record surplusses to record deficits and it is time for fiscal priorities that don't include mortgaging our nation's financial future on the backs of future generations.

• With Democrats in charge, we will make stem cell research a priority so that we can give a fighting chance to millions of Americans looking for hope. We will overcome President Bush’s stifling limitations on progress and push for necessary cures.

• With Democrats in charge, we will finally enact the necessary reforms of the 9/11 Commission. The findings of the commission are vital to securing our ports, limiting the flow dangerous materials at home and abroad and winning the broader war on terror.

• With Democrats in charge, we will stop selling our natural resources to the highest special interest bidder and work to reverse the dangerous effects of global warming. We will promote alternative energy so that our future is in our own hands and so we can continue to lead the world in innovation and preservation."

DSCC Race Map: Road to Victory!

Governor Mark Warner: My New Second Choice

As you all know 2008 is around the corner and I have made it quite clear that Senator Joe Biden (D-DE)is my top choice for president but I did also say that Russ Feingold was my second choice, I am here today to change my mind. For the last couple of months I have listened to the words, ideas, and story of Former Governor Mark Warner of Virginia. After learning about Gov. Warner I have found that besides Joe Biden, he would make a great president. But, why am I making a case for this guy if I support Biden? There are too slots on that ticket in '08 leading off the ticket should be Senator Biden and his running mate should be Governor Warner. I believe that Warner should run for president so he could raise his visibility amoung Americans. He is an experience person, former buisnessman, chair of the Virginia Dems, and the most popular governor in decades. He balanced the budget and put Virginia back on track. He served as chairman of the National Governors Association, the Southern Governor Assoc., and the Democratic Governors Assoc. He is popular in the south and could win Virgina. A Biden/Warner ticket with a good grassroots campaign could make us a treat in the south. Governor Warner is a good man with is a moderate. This ticket could be the Clinton/Gore of this decade. Lets support this ticket now.

The Ever Growing Gap

There is a major gap in this country that by the day becomes more and more difficult to close. I am talking of course about the gap between the middle and upper classes. There is as Lou Dobbs would say, "A War on the Middle Class" as more jobs pay less, and the minimum wage is not enough to live on. Minimum wage jobs are enough to pay for the high cost of American living. Inflation and price gauging of the American public. We are allowing all Americans to be ripped off at the gas pump by Exxon Mobile and we will not even investigate them by their lack of business ethics. One example of the gap is this is less than 40 years ago; CEOs on average were paid an average of about 20-30 times the average worker. Today CEOs on average are paid 600 times the average worker. That is a big, big gap. The minimum wage is $5.15 an hour, and yearly that equals less that 11,000 dollars a year, which is worth less with inflation, and after taxes gives horrible living standards to minimum wage workers. By the way if you earn a minimum wage salary you are below the poverty line. What does this all mean? It means the middle class in eroding away into a new class that can't pay for it's self. We need to do something now and stop making the wealthy, the most powerful.

Get Your Priorities Straight

I love this country first off, and I can't stand this government sitting by and debating pointless issues. Last week the Senate debated a bill involving abortion, when there are a host of issues facing this country that are more dire than abortion, gay marriage, and flag burning. We need to get our priorities straight for example STOP DEBATING ISSUES THAT ARE NOT IMMEDIATELY SERIOUS!!! We need to focus first off on getting rid of the deficit, because when we do this everything becomes easier to fix. How do we get rid of the deficit, we get rid of tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent of Americans, and get rid of pork barrelling and wasteful spending. Second we need to focus on the growing gap between the middle class and the upper class. As the upper class becomes more influential in this country the more less powerful the middle class become. The middle class is the biggest part of this country and it is shrinking. The middle class's voice is becoming more and more distant and average Americans are becoming less involved in this government. Why? This government is not listening to us, they are listening to what the polls show them, that sensational issues such as gay marriage, abortion, and flag burning divide this nation into two wedges that drive this nation to hate each other. If we focus on things like making our economy stronger, we can make our country stronger. We also need to be focusing on education also. We need to focus on getting off foreign oil and having a better approach to this war and our foreign policy. We need to focus on a host of issues ranging from obessity, disease research, the environment, global warming to tax cuts for middle class Americans, helping the poor, and raising the minimum wage. Let's get our priorities straight and stop talking about non issues. Lets fix this nation before we start talking about other issues.

A Message for November

Recently I saw the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Fm.Gov. Howard Dean speak in Delaware and I would like to pass on his message. We need to build our Democratic base through working on local campaigns. A difference can be made through working for Democratic candidates throughout the country. We need to take back state houses throughtout this nation. A way we can build a base in the south is too invest a lot of time in local campaigns such as mayor, school board, city council, state house and senate, etc. With our weak base in the south this is extremely important for the Democratic Party, we haven't done enough locally therefore when it comes to the south we have been loosing. So if we simply tell it like it is, and relay a message of pro middle class, pro balanced budget, pro education, and pro end to the war in Iraq, we take back this country, one county at time. It is time we stop writing off states like Nebraska, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kansas, and start putting them on our radar screen. We need to bring people of all spectrums to our party so we can return to the days of JFK, FDR, Scoop Jackson, and Harry Truman, because that is the real Democratic Party, Pro People. We need to listen to our chairman and start getting active. Go to www.democrats.org, find your local Democratic Party website and get going!

Top Five Senators

Okay it's time for the Top Five Senators
5. Barack Obama of Illinois
A rising star in the Democratic Party, he has done a lot to bring awareness about Darfur and has been an outspoken leader. He could be a possible choice for Senate Minority (dare I say Majority?) Leader.
4. Charles Schumer of New York
Sensable and smart, Chuck Schumer has fought for people in America. He has been an leader and will hopefully deliver a Democratic Senate in 2006. New York is lucky to have him.
3. Edward Kennedy Of Mass.
The backbone of the Senate Democrats, Kennedy has fought to bring healthcare to children in his state. His has fought to reform education and this country. He is a tireless fighter.
2. Russell Feingold of Wisc.
Russ Feingold is a man of greatness. A smart senator who always trys to find a soliution and does things, even with little support, that spart debates in America.
1. Joseph Biden of Delaware
A man who has put Delaware on the map, and is the only senator with a plan for Iraq that can work. Biden has intiatiated some of the best domestic policy in decades. Hopefully he will be President Biden soon.

Let's send the best

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile the last couple of months have been stressful with school and such. However, I feel an urge to write about a certain issue. Delaware had 1 congressman, Mike Castle, a Republican for which I have supported before in previous elections. But, I can not say that this time. The Democrat, Dennis Spivack, is the greatest candidate our party has ever sent to challenge Castle. Castle is a moderate, however I feel that he has become a part of the rubber stamp congress. He has voted with the president over 80% of the time and has a rating of 22 from the ACLU. His "independence" is no longer present. Dennis Spivack is a man of greatness. His wife has had cancer twice and he got into this race to fix a broken healthcare system. He talks with passion on the campaign trail and warms your heart when you see him. He is the smartest Democrat to come before Congressman Castle and has the huevos to stand up to the president. He wants to ease America on a path to universal healthcare. He is opposed to the war, and is big on securing our borders. I have never been as impressed with any congressional candidate as I am with him. His call to service was birthed from tragedy. He gone through a personal hardship and wants to make sure nobody has to go through it. Mike Castle on his tee shirt has a motto, "We can only send one.........let's send the best". I agree, let's send the best, and the best is Dennis Spivack.

It's time for Biden

Here is the convention speech of our next president Senator Joseph R. Biden (D-De).
Read it and find his genius:

Nearly 100 years ago, the great Irish poet William Butler Yeats told us the world has "changed utterly ... A terrible beauty has been born." Tonight, our country stands at the hinge of history. America's destiny is at stake. But we can shape that destiny, if we seize the opportunities before us.
The overwhelming obligation of our next President is clear. Make America stronger. Make America safer. And win the death-struggle between freedom and radical fundamentalism. That struggle breached our shores on September 11th, 2001, and delivered this generation of Americans to this moment of awesome responsibility.
After 9/11, I believed -- and still do -- that if we exercised the full measure of our power -- including our ideas and our ideals -- we could unite this nation and other nations in common cause. 9/11 was a moment of profound pain, but also enormous opportunity. Americans stood in blood lines for hours -- even though no more blood was needed. The French ran a headline that said: "We Are All Americans Now."
Imagine how Franklin Roosevelt or John Kennedy would have seized that moment. Imagine if this president had spoken to the nation and the world and summoned that sense of solidarity. Imagine if he had said: "It's time for all who are able to do something for America. I'm calling for a new program of national service and an energy policy that will liberate us from the suffocating grip of Middle East oil. And I call on our allies to join us in a compact for freedom, because we are always stronger -- safer -- better -- more secure together than we are alone."
Just imagine.
I do not question the motives of this administration. But I profoundly disagree with their judgments. History will judge them harshly not for the mistakes made -- we all make mistakes -- but for the opportunities squandered. Today, we are rightly confident in the example of our power. But we have forgotten the power of our example.
And for all of America's great might, we are more alone in the world than ever before. As a result, we are less secure than we could or should be. Our allies and friends, the international organizations we have built over the past half-century do not hold America down. They help us share the burdens of leadership.
We were told we would pay no price for going it alone. That was wrong. Because we waged the war in Iraq virtually alone, we are responsible for the aftermath virtually alone. The price is clear. Nearly 90 percent of the troops and the casualties are American. And because intelligence was hyped to justify going to war, America's credibility and security have suffered a terrible blow.
Forty years ago, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, President Kennedy sent former Secretary of State Dean Acheson to Europe to seek support. Acheson explained the situation to French President de Gaulle. Then, he offered to show classified intelligence information as proof. De Gaulle said, "That's not necessary. I know President Kennedy. I know he would never mislead me on a question of war and peace." Would a single foreign leader react the same way today?
My friends, it doesn't have to be this way. America and the world deserve a president whose judgment they can trust. Americans are bigger and better than the past four years have led the world to believe. Americans know our military is the strongest on earth, but we are not arrogant.
Americans are proud, not petty. Instead of dividing the world, we must unite it. Instead of bullying, we must build. Instead of walking alone, we must lead. It's only leadership if others follow.
But let no enemy mistake our basic decency for lack of resolve. Americans will fight with every fiber of our being to protect our country and our people. When John Kerry is commander-in-chief, he will not hesitate to unleash the unparalleled power of our military, on any nation or group that does us harm -- without asking anyone's permission.
This is man tested in combat, who will never send our sons and daughters into harm's way before exhausting every other option -- and giving them every tool they need. When John Kerry is president, military preemption will remain -- as it has always been -- an option, when we face a genuine, imminent threat.
But John Kerry will build a true prevention strategy -- to defuse dangers long before the only choice is war. When John Kerry is president, our friends and allies will have no excuse to sit on the sidelines. And above all, when John Kerry is president, he will level with the American people. For he will inherit a nation and a world that will require him to ask much of us and our allies.
I have no doubt this generation of Americans -- like every generation that has come before it -- will rise to the moment, for it longs to do great things. John Kerry is a student of history. He understands why we prevailed when our nation faced grave peril in the past. He understands that the terrorists may be beyond the reach of reason. We must defeat them. But hundreds of millions of hearts and minds are open to our ideas and our ideals. We must reach them.
Just as Joshua's trumpets brought down the walls of Jericho -- just as American values brought down the Berlin Wall -- so will radical fundamentalism fall to the terrible, swift power of our ideas as well as our swords.
It is time to recapture the totality of America's strength. It is time to restore our nation to the respect it once had. It is time to reclaim America's soul. It is time to elect John Kerry the next president of the United States.

A Reason for George

Yesterday, Helen Thomas, White House reporterer, asked President Bush for a reason for Iraq. It's been 3 years since Thomas has been called on and she made the best of time. Instead on giving a viable reason for war, the dumbass, that is our president, said that. "No president wants war." No president wants war!?! What the f%$&! This president has given no reason for this war. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! This man is lying. What possible would we go into a country with no connection to people who attacked us on September 11. The fight is with Osama Bin Laden, not Suddam Hussian. We still haven't found the man who hurt us. We went after the holy grail before we could find the car keys. He was a man hinding in some damn hills! Hussian had a army and lots of protection. Yes, Hussian was a horrible man. But, he did not attack us on September 11, Osama Bin Laden did. And I ask of the president to not lie to us anymore. We can see through your bullshit.

Not Very Presidential

President Bush today in a news conference acted as if he were talking with the guys. This president needs to act presidential. We need a president who is going to act like just that A PRESIDENT! Our president has completely forgotten his job, maybe he should go into the Oval Office and look in the middle of the rug. That's not the lone star of Texas, Mr. President, that is the seal of the president of the United States. For God's sake have a little respect for the office. A president is supposed to act calm, poised, smart, and regal, but still have that regular person charm. This president, on the other hand, acts like a cowboy he never was, loose, and wavy, stupid, and idiotic. I couldn't believe my eyes. Not even I do that.

Had Enough?

It is an election year. No, not a presidential election year, but an important one, non-the-less. It is a mid-term election, and it's time for Democrats to be back in the majority. I am tired of the corruption and empty promises of the Republican party. The way the Republicans have delt with the country is terrible. President Bush has ruined many parts of our country. cough, cough NEW ORLEANS.

Presidential Candidates for 2008

Well, it's never to early for me. I have been absorbed by the 2008 election. Recently senate majority leader Bill Frist (R-TN), won a straw poll by the Southern Republican Leadership Conference and surprisingly, Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) came in second. I believe that the Republican ticket as of now will be Bill Frist-Mitt Romney or George Allen- Mitt Romney, because it will be the Republicans best bet. For the Democrats, my party, I hope to God, that Hilary Clinton will NOT be nominated. We've lost twice already and if the Democrats nominate her, we will lose again. She is weak, and too liberal. She is too easy to beat. But the good news is that there is a host of other candidates, we Democrats can nominate. For example, my guy, Senator Joe Biden (D-DE), my second choice, Senator Russell Feingold (D-WI), Fm. Gov. Mark Warner (D-VA), Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM), and Evan Bayh (D-IN). Any of these guys would make a wonderful choice for president for the Democrats. Hilary, Kerry, and Edwards, should be done with, but I believe there coming back.
